Ford produces millions of vehicles driven in the United States, so it’s not entirely surprising that there are often Ford recalls. The more vehicles you have on the road, the higher the likelihood that some of them will have problems. The latest Ford recall warns that nearly a million of their vehicles have a fuel pump defect, rendering the affected cars dangerous to drive.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently released a brief explaining the issue. This issue is dangerous enough to warrant an immediate recall, but Ford has not yet landed on a solution. So if it turns out that you own one of the faulty vehicles, it’s best to minimize your use of it until the company announces a remedy.

Why Is Ford Recalling So Many Vehicles?

According to the NHTSA brief, Ford is recalling nearly a million vehicles because “the low-pressure fuel pump may fail.” This is dangerous because a failing fuel pump “can result in an engine stall while driving.” Engine stalls are scary, and if they happen while you’re driving (as opposed to upon starting your vehicle), it “increases the risk of a crash.”

Again, if at all possible, reduce your use of your faulty Ford vehicle until the auto maker announces a remedy and you’ve been able to obtain an appointment. You don’t want to put your life, the lives of your passengers or the lives of other drivers on the road at risk.
